- 15 mL Kikkoman® Sesame Oil
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger optional, for added depth
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar optional, for a tangy kick
Step 1: Marinate the Beef
Start by slicing the beef thinly against the grain. This ensures tenderness. In a bowl, combine the beef with water, oyster sauce, soy sauce, Tamari soy sauce, baking soda, and cornstarch. Mix well and let it marinate for 15 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the Ingredients
While the beef marinates, chop your vegetables. Mince garlic and slice the onions, bell peppers, and scallions. This prep work makes the cooking process seamless.
Step 3: Cook the Beef
Heat 30 g of oil in a large pan or wok over high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef. Stir-fry until it’s browned and nearly cooked through, about 2–3 minutes. Remove the beef and set it aside.
Step 4: Start Stir-Frying Vegetables
In the same pan, add another 57 g of oil if needed. Then, toss in the minced garlic and let it sizzle for a moment. Next, add the sliced onion, bell peppers, and dried chili peppers. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
Step 5: Add the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, cooking wine, Tamari soy sauce, and chili sauce. Add this mixture to the stir-fried vegetables and give it a good stir.
Step 6: Combine Beef and Cook
Step 7: Finishing Touches
Here are some handy tips for perfecting your dish:
- Beef Selection: Choose fresh, good quality beef. Flank steak is ideal due to its tenderness.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: If your pan is too crowded during cooking, the meat may steam instead of fry.
- Control the Heat: Adjust the heat as you cook. High heat is essential for proper stir-frying.
- Prep Ahead: You can marinate the beef a few hours in advance or even overnight for deeper flavor.
- Garnish for Style: A sprinkle of sesame seeds or chopped scallions can enhance the dish’s appearance.
