Equipment

  • Large pot

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon fresh apple juice
  • 1 gallon spiced apple cider
  • 1 750 milliliter bottle high-quality vodka
  • 1 750 milliliter bottle 190 proof neutral grain spirit
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup dried apple slices
  • 4 cinnamon sticks adjust quantity for desired intensity
  • 1 dash of apple pie spice blend

Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Base

  • First, grab a large pot and pour in the apple juice and spiced apple cider. This forms the base of your moonshine. Heat it on medium-high until it’s warm but not boiling.

Step 2: Adding the Sweetness

  • Next, add the granulated sugar and dark brown sugar to the pot. Stir continuously until the sugars dissolve completely. This step is crucial as it ensures the smoothness of your final product.

Step 3: Infusing the Flavors

  • Toss in the cinnamon sticks, dried apple slices, and a dash of apple pie spice blend. Lower the heat and let it simmer for about an hour. This allows the spices to infuse deeply into the liquid.

Step 4: Cooling the Mixture

  • Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. This is important because adding alcohol to hot liquid can cause evaporation and loss of potency.

Step 5: Adding the Spirits

  • Once the mixture is cool, it’s time to add the vodka and neutral grain spirit. Make sure to stir well to incorporate the alcohol evenly throughout the mixture.

Step 6: Bottling the Moonshine

  • Using a funnel, pour the moonshine into clean, sealable bottles. Add a cinnamon stick and a few dried apple slices into each bottle for an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal.

Step 7: Let it Age

  • Seal the bottles tightly and store them in a cool, dark place for at least two weeks. This aging process allows the flavors to meld together and mature, resulting in a smoother and more cohesive taste.

Notes

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the final product.
  • Sterilize your bottles: Ensure all your bottles are clean to avoid any unwanted bacteria.
  • Let it age: Patience is key. The longer you let it sit, the better it will taste.
  • Experiment with spices: If you love cinnamon, add an extra stick. For more depth, try adding a bit of nutmeg or cloves.
  • Serve cold or warm: This moonshine can be enjoyed chilled or gently warmed, depending on your preference.
